Our Total Trip in April 2009

We took a quick trip to Richland to visit my family last week and this is our art work on the way there. (Sorry about the picture quality, our car wasn't the only thing that had an accident, our camera broke as well, so thank heaven for cell phone cameras to record the memories.)

On Thursday, the weather was crazy, nice and sunny, then hailing five minutes later, it was so hard to predict. Well, we thought we had a break in the storm so we took off and in Oregon, just after Bob passed like 4 semi trucks, we started to go down the hill and the car started to turn too far to the left and we started spinning. we spun once and hit the median on the back passenger trunk side. then we spun again. When we came out of the spin we facing the opposite direction of traffic. So we quickly restarted the car, which had turned off and turned the car around to continue on our journey. Ella started crying and we thought she might be hurt. "My goldfish!!" Her snacks had fallen in the spin :) we couldn't stop laughing and we're grateful for the comic relief!

We pulled off as soon as we got a chance to inspect the damage. (again, no camera...) The back bumper had took from the passenger side and was sticking out about 2 feet and a crack ran along the bumper. Bob was able to twsit off the piece so that we would not hit other cars with the obstruction. We got the car checked out in Pendleton and were told it was safe to drive, just looked really bad, but not to use the AC, since we bent a condensor. Anyway, so we took off for Richland and then Bob started to worry that the bumper was coming off, so we pulled into a rest area and he got out, touched the bumper and the whole thing fell off! My Dad came down and Jerry-rigged it so we could drive it. We didn't have any trouble on the way back, thank heaven.

SO that was this weekend. TODAY, we took it to the autobody place in Idaho Falls and were told that we had totalled it. The back end had crumpled about 6 inches from the impact of the median at 50 miles per hour. (Good thing we were going under the speed limit!) No camera, but we will take a picture of the bumper and its current state.

WE feel so blessed!!!!! The spot the car hit, no one was sitting in the back seat on the passenger side. Of all the places to hit, that one did the least amount of damage and we all were spared as well, which is scary to say since the least amount of damage totalled the car! Anyway, so that was our crazy adventure this weekend.
